Common Problems

Dogwood Anthracnose

Dogwood Anthracnose Dogwood Anthracnose Dogwood Anthracnose

Symptoms

Dogwood Anthracnose is caused by a fungus and is very common in Western Washington.  The disease generally appears from late May to early July, although damage can be noticed at anytime during the growing season.  Large, brown blotches develop on the leaves.  The spots are concentrated on the veins and in the most severe cases can stretch the full length of the leaf.  In the most advanced stages of the disease leaves will drop and could completely defoliate.

Treatment

We recommend two applications for control of anthracnose approximately 21 days apart.  This application should be applied during the early spring, typically starting in April at the sign of bud break.
